A canapé (pronounced can-a-PAY) is a type of appetizer, a small snack eaten with the fingers, usually at parties or events. Canapés are a more special dish. The name is derived from the term sofa because the padding rests on a firm surface, just as a person sits on a sofa. In this context, sofas should include the following:

A solid base can be a piece of cucumber (as in our recipe), crostini, crackers or even a puff pastry shell.

Add a tasty spread, which can be ground avocado (as in our recipe), mayonnaise, cream cheese or even butter.

Tips for making the best Cajun shrimp

– If you want to increase the flavor, add chopped cilantro to the avocado mixture instead of parsley and lemon juice instead of lemon juice.

– You can prepare the individual items ahead of time and put them together before serving. Slice the cucumber and store in the refrigerator (in an airtight container). The avocado mixture can be stored in a bowl, covered with plastic wrap. You can also boil the shrimp and keep them in the refrigerator until you serve them.

How to store Cajun Canapés

Store the canapés on a dish covered with cling film in the refrigerator until ready to serve. You can also store individual pieces in the refrigerator, but make sure everything is covered.

How to make Cajun Shrimp Canapés

Cut the avocado in half. Remove the flesh from the avocado.

Finely chop the spring onions.

Chop the parsley finely.

Put the avocado, parsley and spring onions in a bowl, add the juice of half a lemon and season with salt and pepper.

Mash the avocado mixture with a fork to a coarse paste.

Cut the cucumber into circles about 4-5 mm thick.

Put the shrimp in a small mixing bowl.

Add the vegetable oil and Cajun seasoning to the shrimp and stir. NOTES: If your Cajun seasoning contains salt and pepper, do not add it to the shrimp, otherwise add salt and pepper.

Heat a skillet over high heat and cook the shrimp for 2 minutes on each side or until cooked through.

Finish with a cucumber slice and drizzle with the avocado mixture.

Place the fried shrimp on top.


If you use a large cucumber, the recipe will yield about 15 to 20 slices, depending on the thickness of the cucumber slices.
