- It’s lovely. Shrimp wrapped in bacon are a real treat for the crowd. I recommend doubling or even tripling the recipe. You won’t get any leftovers. But if you do, it’s very easy to overheat them.
There are several ways to prepare bacon-wrapped shrimp, and a few tips for making super crispy bacon.
This recipe can be made in the oven, but bacon-wrapped shrimp are also great on the grill and are perfect in the fryer.
- Buffalo weed. I make my own blend with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika and cayenne pepper. You can find the exact recipe in the recipe sheet.
- Shrimp. Use shrimp on the tail or on the tail, depending on your preference.
- Bacon. I used applewood bacon. I usually buy my bacon at the butcher shop. There’s less water in it and I think it crumbles faster than it’s packed.
- The maple syrup. Maple syrup is optional. If you want it to be a keto snack recipe, you can omit it or use a maple syrup suitable for ketos, for example. B. ChocZero’s maple syrup.
I usually buy frozen shrimp and then thaw them. But if you can find fresh shrimp, do it! For this recipe, I chose shrimp by the tail.
First, defrost the shrimp and rinse them. Dry them off. Season them with a mixture of buffalo spices. Then set the shrimp aside.
I bought applewood smoked bacon at the butcher shop. You need about 10 pieces for 30 shrimp. More or less.
PRO TIP : Butcher’s lard contains less water. That’s why it itches so much. Packaged bacon has a higher water content, so all the water must be boiled before it starts to brown.
It’s my pet. Especially if you fry bacon and pour hot grease into it, which is due to the water in the bacon leaving the grease. I just want some fat in my bacon, please. I used to splurge on bacon because it’s better.
Cut the bacon into three pieces and wrap one piece around each shrimp. It allows the bacon to gently pull and stretch.
You can use toothpicks, especially if your shrimp are larger and the bacon won’t stay in place.
I use a metal grill that I place on a heavy-duty baking sheet. I find it makes the bacon crispy without having to flip it, and it’s also a little less greasy.
If you don’t have a wire rack, use a foil-lined baking sheet for easy cleaning. You may want to flip the shrimp halfway through.
Preheat oven to 425 ℉.
Place the bacon-wrapped shrimp in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes.
If using maple syrup, add a bit of bison herb to the maple syrup about halfway through and spread it over the bacon-wrapped shrimp.
You can also fry them for 2 minutes if you feel the bacon is not crispy enough. The bacon fat makes the shrimp juicy.
How to cook bacon.
Since bacon takes longer to cook than it contains, one option is to cook it ahead or steam it.
This simply means that the bacon is partially cooked before being wrapped around the shrimp.
1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Place the bacon on the baking sheet and bake for about 20 minutes. Monitor the oven temperature.
What is the best size for a shrimp?
When it comes to choosing the best size shrimp, there are so many options.
The shrimp are classified according to size. The numbers you see indicate the average number of shrimp per pound. 51/60 means there are between 51 and 60 shrimp per pound. The smaller the number, the larger the shrimp concerned.
51/60 – small
41/50 – medium
36/40 – medium
31/35 – large
26/30 – extra large
21/25 – jumbo
16/20 – extra large jumbo
I used size 31/35 in this recipe. Anything else can be used for this recipe. That’s what I’d do.
Tail or crab tail?
Anyway, it’s beautiful.
I used tails for this recipe because I wanted them to be delicious pieces of bacon.
The tail is great if you don’t use toothpicks. You can then grab them by the tail of their boat.
