Tawa pulao is a popular street dish in Mumbai, where vegetable rice is cooked in a shallow pan or tawa.


Lunch on New Year’s Eve consisted of an elaborate thali and the main course was tawa pulao, breaded with hoya matar and boondi raita. I also cooked masala paratha, Punjabi dhuli dal, roasted pahadi (kumaoni) aloo and papad lump, while the desserts were carrot lord and mawa besan laddu. In today’s post, I am focusing on Mumbai’s famous and popular street food – Tawa Pulao. It’s a kind of synthetic food. Mixed vegetables are fried in a masala and mixed with rice cooked in a large iron pan (tawa) or a wok, as in Chinese style with vegetables fried rice. The main ingredient is baji masala pavilion, an aromatic blend of spices used in the preparation of baji pavilion.

The street style of Tawa Pulao

To taste the authentic Pulao Tawa, you must go to the shopping carts that line the streets of Mumbai and Juhu Beach. Since this recipe is easy to reproduce, we can mimic the same flavors at home, even if it doesn’t have the typical street food flavor that street vendors stir in.

Tawa Pulao is a quick meal if you have leftover cooked rice. The only prep work involves cutting and blanching the vegetable mixture. You can use 2 or 3 other vegetables of your choice in addition to onions and tomatoes. Carrots, beans, cauliflower, potatoes, green beans, cabbage, kale and green peas can all be included in your homemade tawa pulao recipe. Be careful not to overcook the vegetables by blanching them. They should still be a little crispy. I used carrots, potatoes, green peas, cabbage and cauliflower in the tawa pulao recipe.

Oil, tomatoes, bhaji masala and fresh coriander leaves are essential ingredients for a tasty tawa pulav. Make sure you don’t miss any of these ingredients. The street style of Tawa Pulao requires the use of red pepper paste, which gives the pulao a beautiful red color. I replaced the red chili paste with cashmere chili powder.

This tasty stew is perfect for your kids because it contains mixed vegetables. Serve it with raita or yogurt and you have a complete and nutritious meal. A gem among Indian pulao recipes that should not be missing from your recipe repertoire.
