Instant Pot Brown Rice – A step-by-step guide to making the perfect brown rice in your Instant Pot every time.

You won’t believe how easy it is! Perfect with your favorite curry or stir-fry dish!

Is rice healthy?

It’s like a never-ending debate!

I grew up in a family where we ate rice every day. Dinner is not complete if there is no rice on the table. That’s because we come from a part of India where rice was grown in abundance, and my grandfather was a farmer, so we had rice farms! And because there was so much rice, of course we ate it all the time.

When I was a kid, I never thought about whether rice was good or bad. But even though I grew up in such an environment, I never became a rice fan. I don’t know why! Although no one in my family could finish a meal without rice, I preferred to avoid rice as much as possible.

I always preferred my rotisserie (flatbread) and eating rice seemed like a chore. In my house, rice has always been white. I didn’t even know about brown rice until I grew up with it and it became a trend!

Hence the debate about which rice is healthier: brown rice or white rice?

Both white and brown rice are rich in carbohydrates. White rice is essentially brown rice without the germ and bran. Since brown rice contains all grains, it is believed to be a healthier alternative. It contains more fiber, minerals and vitamins than white.

However, according to some studies, white rice is easier to digest, making it a better alternative for the gut.

So, what’s your team? Brown or white?

I often make white rice because that’s what Sarvesh used to eat, but since I have my Instant Pot, I often make silver rice. Of course, I eat everything myself!

In fact, I always prefer brown rice to white rice when eating out, especially Asian rice. Yes, for my dal I need white rice because I grew up with it, it’s hard to change habits.

But for everything else, I prefer brown rice to white rice. Like with this Thai peanut tofu curry or this sweet potato curry!

Although I’ve always loved brown rice, I’ve never made it often and the reason was that I could never get it to cook well on the stove. I also didn’t like sitting and standing in front of the stove while it cooked. But not anymore!

It’s so easy to make brown rice in the Instant Pot! I thought it would be fun to share a full recipe with you, since I make them regularly. I hope you find it useful.

Ingredients

There are only 4 ingredients in this recipe.

Brown rice: You can use whatever brown rice you prefer here. I like the ones from Trader Joe’s and used them in this recipe.

Olive Oil : Adding oil to the rice improves the taste and texture. Any oil can be used here, I prefer olive oil.

Salt: Like oil, salt adds to the flavor of the rice, so I recommend adding it.

Water: and of course you need water to cook the rice.

These are the basic ingredients needed for this recipe. Of course, you can add some spices like turmeric, paprika, etc. if you want to give the rice some flavor.

Yes simple, use 1 cup of brown rice (195 grams), 1.25 cups of water, 1 teaspoon of oil and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.

Does this recipe work with all types of brown rice?

I made this recipe with jasmine rice and brown rice, and it works well with both. I haven’t tested it with brown basmati rice, but I’m sure it would work in the same proportions.

Close the Instant Pot with the lid. Press the manual or boil button and cook for 24 minutes under high pressure. Make sure the pressure valve is in the shut-off position.
