There are many ways to prepare these skewers, so choose the way that is easiest for you. You can put just prosciutto and melon on a skewer, or add mozzarella and basil for simplicity.

Which melon variety to use

Cantaloupe is the best melon variety to pair with prosciutto. It has just the right amount of sweetness, texture and flavor that cured meats need. Cantaloupe is also less watery than other melons, such as. B. The honeydew melon so it doesn’t interfere with the flavor.

However, you can also use honeydew melon or even watermelon for these skewers. Remember that the flavor won’t be as concentrated and the melon will make the skewers more watery, so they’ll get soft if they sit for a while.

Preparation of melon skewers with prosciutto

To assemble these skewers, you’ll need toothpicks or 3-inch wooden skewers. On each skewer, stick a piece of prosciutto, a piece of cantaloupe, basil and mozzarella.

Just before serving, pour over the balsamic glaze. If you don’t plan to serve them right away, you can put them in a container for 24 hours (if you used cantaloupe). If you have used watermelon, it is better not to keep it overnight, as the watermelon will start to lose water and the prosciutto will absorb it.

If these snacks can’t be eaten right away, I suggest keeping half in the fridge and refilling the plate when empty. They are so much better cooled.

Instructions

  1. To assemble the skewers : On each skewer, stick a piece of prosciutto, a piece of cantaloupe, basil and mozzarella.
  2. Drizzle with balsamic glaze and serve chilled.
