Mongolian Beef is one of the most common dishes I have on my weekly menu. It’s easy to make and full of amazing flavors. This version is a little different than what most people make. I add in a Korean spice blend called Gochujang. It makes the dish full of flavor.

How to prepare Mongolian beef in a multi-cooker?

One of the reasons we love Instant Pots so much is that they are easy to cook in. To prepare the Mongolian steak in the Instant Pot, fry the steak in sesame oil until lightly browned, about 2-3 minutes, working in batches so as not to overload the pan. While the beef is roasting, mix the ingredients for the sauce. When all the meat is browned, add the sauce, cover the Instant Pot with a lid and cook over high heat for 10 minutes. Then quickly remove from pan, garnish with green onions and sesame seeds and serve with rice, noodles or whatever you prefer.

What is the best beef for Mongolian beef

Flank steak is one of the main cuts in most Mongolian beef recipes, but the topside is also wonderfully tender. Flank steak is leaner but incredibly flavorful, and when cooked in the Instant Pot or slow cooker, it becomes a tender, melt-in-your-mouth steak.

What to serve with Mongolian Beef

There are many ways to serve Mongolian beef. Serve with pasta, rice or quinoa and vegetables for a complete and nutritious meal. If you’re on a low-carb or keto diet, serve the Mongolian steak with cauliflower rice or zucchini noodles.

Tips for easily cooking Mongolian beef in the multi-cooker

– Cut the beef against the fibers. You can also freeze the beef for 15 to 20 minutes to make it easier to cut. For Mongolian beef, you need very thin slices.

– Do not replace starch with flour. Corn starch helps to soften the beef, which flour cannot do.

– If you are roasting beef, work in batches. Depending on the size of your Instant Pot, you may need 2-4 batches.

– If you don’t have an Instant Pot, you can use a slow cooker to cook the perfect Mongolian beef. Brown the beef, then add the sauce and cook for 2-3 hours on high heat or 4-5 hours on low heat.

– This recipe is ideal for people on a keto diet. Replace the brown sugar with a sweetener of your choice and follow the recipe as is for an easy keto version.

Can chicken be used instead of beef?

Absolutely. The chicken in this recipe will be just as delicious as the beef. For a lean dish, use chicken breasts. If you prefer fattier (and therefore tastier) cuts, chicken thighs are good for you.

How to store Mongolian beef in the Instant Pot

If you have leftovers, you can put the Instant Pot Mongolian Beef in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Frozen Mongolian beef can be kept for 3 to 4 months.

How to prepare Mongolian beef in a multi-cooker?

In a large bowl, mix the beef and cornstarch. Let it stand for 5 minutes.

Whisk together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, water, garlic, ginger, sugar and chili flakes.

Set the Instant Pot to simmer mode. Heat 2 tablespoons of sesame oil and fry half the beef. When the beef is browned, remove it from the pan and repeat with the remaining beef. Turn on the saute mode and put all the meat in the Instant Pot.

Pour the soy sauce mixture over the beef and stir to combine. Close the lid, increase the pressure and cook for 10 minutes. When it’s ready, release it quickly.

Add the green onions and stir. Sprinkle with sesame seeds before serving.
