This dessert takes only 40 minutes to prepare, most of which is baked in a hands-free oven. Unlike banana bread, banana chocolate cake has three layers of flavor: On the bottom is a dense layer of chocolate cake, which is much like a cake. It is garnished with sweet banana slices (make sure they are good and ripe for this recipe). Then comes a layer of airy vanilla cream for a creamy filling. Sprinkle the cake with cocoa powder and crunchy chocolate chips, and you have a complete meal!

Whereas banana bread is usually sliced, this is a sweet and festive dessert. Better served after dinner than at breakfast, it has all the makings of a decadent treat. Instead of mashing bananas and adding them to bread dough, you can add sliced bananas so that each bite has a nice fresh banana flavor.

How to make chocolate banana cake: step-by-step instructions

First, separate the four eggs into two mixing bowls.

Beat the egg whites with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form.

Beat the egg yolks with a mixer until smooth, then add the brown sugar and vanilla sugar. Add the butter and mix until smooth.

In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder and baking powder. Beat with a fork to mix well.

Place a fine-mesh sieve over the bowl containing the egg yolk mixture. Add the dry ingredients mixture and strain the egg yolks.

Use an electric mixer to thoroughly mix the egg yolks and dry ingredients.

In a bowl, add the egg yolk and cocoa powder mixture to the beaten egg whites. Use a rubber spatula to mix.

Pour the dough into the prepared round pan with the small bottom of the pan inside. Press the pan onto a cooling rack to remove air bubbles and allow the dough to settle. Bake the cake for 30 minutes in the preheated oven or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

While the cake bakes, slice three large bananas.

Remove the cake from the pan when baking is complete. Place the cake on the work surface and cover it with three tablespoons of milk so that it sinks.

Arrange the sliced bananas on top of the cake.

Pour the vanilla cream over the bananas and use a rubber spatula to smooth it out.

Sprinkle the top of the cake with cocoa powder.

Decorate with chopped chocolate chips.



  1. Preheat the oven to 170 degrees Celsius. Place the small bottom of the springform pan in the large cake pan. Grease with baking spray.
  2. Separate the yolks and egg whites in two separate bowls. Beat the egg whites with a mixer until stiff peaks form. Beat the egg yolks with the brown sugar and vanilla sugar, then add the butter to the yolk mixture.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda and chocolate powder. Then add this mixture to the egg yolk mixture and mix with a mixer. Gradually add the egg whites and mix with a whisk or rubber spatula. Pour the mixture into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30 minutes.
  4. Slice the banana. Whisk in the vanilla cream. Sprinkle the sponge cake with the milk. Arrange the bananas, brush with the vanilla cream.
  5. Sprinkle with cocoa and add chocolate chips for decoration.


Use oil whose expiration date has passed, such as rapeseed oil or vegetable oil.
