If you’ve never tried fried onions, you’ll fall in love with this recipe. Raw onions contain a lot of sulfur, which is good for our health, but not so good for our taste. Fortunately, once cooked, onions are sweet and flavorful, making them perfect for this recipe.

Stuffed onions make an excellent side dish or appetizer. They are quite versatile and you replace the garnish with what you have. Don’t forget to add the bread crumbs and eggs. The breadcrumbs add crunch and also help bind the mixture (with the eggs).

Because onions are also easy to eat with your hands, they are perfect for dinner. They are also very beautiful! If you fill them with meat, you can enjoy them as a main course.

Tips

You can use any bow you have on hand, but a yellow bow is preferred. They are perfect for caramelizing, and cooking makes them soft and delicious! You can also use Vidalia, red or white onions.

There are many variations of this dish. If you don’t want to use mashed potatoes, you can use any of the following: cooked rice, spinach, cooked mushrooms, fresh cilantro, ground beef (try beef, turkey, or sausage), and even other spices like cinnamon, cumin, and ground cilantro. Some ingredients (e.g. peppers, mushrooms, spinach) should be cooked before adding them to the mashed potatoes to remove the moisture.

Onions can also be roasted in the oven. Drizzle the stuffed onions with olive oil and bake in a preheated oven (425°F/220°C) for 40 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

You can bake the onion cake before adding it to the mashed potatoes. This makes them sweet and adds flavor to the stuffed onions.

Make sure the cup with the onions remains intact. It must not break when you remove the inside, or the bandage will leak.

If you want to make a main course, fill it with cooked sausages, mushrooms and peppers and serve it on a bed of rice.
