You do have to control yourself before mixing this cocktail, because it’s one of those drinks that you swallow before you know it. The combination of Godiva chocolate liqueur, crème de cacao and cream is so decadent.

Are Godiva and Cocoa Cram one and the same?

I am often asked for this recipe. Godiva chocolate liqueur and Crème de Cacao are two different types of liqueur. For this recipe, you need both to get the strong chocolate flavor you expect.

Godiva chocolate liqueur is a sweeter, thicker syrup than the chocolate liqueur called crème de cocao.

If that’s not confusing enough, you should know that there are also two different versions of creme de cacao: light chocolate and dark chocolate. Clearly clean. You can use it in drinks that are clear or light in color. The darker version adds a caramel color and is a bit heavier. They taste the same. For this cocktail, use one you can find or one you already have. I used the dark version here.

How to make a chocolate martini

The Martini consists mainly of liquor, so it’s a pretty strong drink. That’s why we use three different kinds of liqueur in this cocktail. It consists of Godiva (or another brand of chocolate liqueur), crème de cacao and vodka. If you have vanilla vodka, you can use that for more flavor.

If you don’t want to make such a strong drink, you can replace the vodka with cream or omit it.

To make the cocktail, first prepare a glass. Moisten the rim of the martini glass with water and roll the cocoa powder in it. This step is not absolutely necessary, but I really like the decadent look it gives.

Then mix the ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake vigorously for 20 seconds. Pour into a martini glass. Sprinkle with grated dark chocolate or cocoa powder.

  • 1/2 tablespoon cocoa powder cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 Unzen Godiva-Schokoladenlikör
  • 1 1/2 cups of cocoa cream
  • 1 Unze schwere Sahne oder halb und halb
  • 1/2 ounce vodka
  • Engraved dark chocolate, for the filling.


    1. Moisten the rim of a martini glass. Roll the edge in the cocoa powder to coat it.
    2. Mix all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake it off. Pour into a martini glass.
    3. Chocolate on a rack on top for topping.
