When I was 21, I was overweight.” I wrote on the first summer day of my senior year of college. That was the first sentence of the first blog post that I had ever published. Within hours, I had over 70,000 hits. I was hooked.

Once upon a time, she was addicted to sugar, and it controlled her life. She was diabetic and felt powerless over her weight. She tried everything: exercise, diet, and medications all failed. Then, one day she found a little-known reason why she couldn’t lose weight—and it changed her life.

Today we’re talking about Laurel, a reader who recently began her keto journey with her husband. After hearing that we recommended Eat Bacon, Don’t Jog as one of our favorite keto sources, she decided to read the book aloud while she and her husband were on their way to a wedding abroad. The main conclusion of the book, she says, is that if you eat a lot of carbs in your diet, you become a sugar burner and fail to lose much weight. On the other hand, if your diet is high in natural fats, you will become a fat burner and lose weight more easily.

Both initially questioned the counterintuitive idea of eating more fat to lose fat, but this statement resonated in their hearts and changed their outlook on food. They also became more aware of the impact of carbohydrates on their bodies.

Well, the proof is in the pudding without sugar, because keto works for them! Since launching in July 2018, Laurel has already lost 12 pounds and her husband 20! However, this cannot be done without work. Laurel admits that her biggest problem is craving sugar. At first, it was hard to give up sugar and processed carbohydrates, especially since these foods were a big part of her former eating habits.

Laurel also began to experience the symptoms of keto flu, but thankfully these unpleasant effects passed. To be successful on a keto diet, she recommends paying attention to the foods being eaten and their effects on the body, referencing the recommendations she made in her book Eat Bacon, Don’t Jog.

Today Laurel and her husband are happy that they have more energy, can lift more weights at the gym and can think better. You don’t have to stand still in the middle of the day! Even better: Laurel’s skin condition has improved, which is a wonderful benefit, in addition to all the other health benefits of the keto diet.
