This recipe consists of a mushroom sauce, freshly blanched green beans and crispy oven-baked Panko onion rings. The food snob in me approves this improved version of the holiday pot based on green beans. I know you do, too.

Mom’s Classic Casserole with Green Beans gets top scores!

Remember the classic Campbell’s green bean casserole with crispy onions on it? Of course you did. All the mothers did it!

Think of the green bean pan prepared with a condensed mushroom soup and a pot of fried onions. I’ll teach you how to make a casserole with green beans, which is even better. I promise this will be your new favorite family.

I’ll probably end up here, but there was something from the ’80s and food made of condensed soup. It was the era of neonspandex, hair ribbons and a million types of rice pots made from a kind of frozen or canned vegetables, as well as cans of condensed soup into which they were mixed.

I have to admit that sometimes I’m really hungry for a good old-fashioned rice stew with cheddar cheese and broccoli or even a retro-tuna stew with frozen peas.

I’ve always been a gourmet. You can ask my mother, she’ll confirm it. She even called me a food snob sometimes. I know this is shocking. I started collecting recipes – probably since elementary school. Even then, I studied the ingredients.

Aromas of sauces and dishes in restaurants. Confirm that the sauce did contain turmeric. I guess Mom always thought I was a little weird. I mean, which kid signs up for elementary school to eat and drink?

It’s my food snobbery, a worthy version of mommy’s green bean burner.

I really like my mother’s version, but I don’t always like the fact that I’m not quite sure what the condensed soup is made of. Is this onion really an onion? Or is it just a weird, crispy thing with onions that taste great, but don’t taste like onions at all?  I want to know what’s in my food.

What you like about this recipe

  • Mushroom sauce. The creamy mushroom sauce in this recipe is divine and easy to prepare. Seriously, it takes a little longer than opening a can of condensed soup.
  • Healthy casserole with green beans. Since this recipe contains no artificial ingredients, you know it’s better for you.
  • Put it forward. This green bean stew can be prepared in advance, so you have less to do on the day of your walk!

Recipes Note

It really is the best green bean burner. If you want this recipe gluten-free and diary-free, no problem! There are a few replacements you can make depending on the recipe and I promise it will always be delicious.

Ingredients

  • Charicot lace.
  • Mushrooms. I usually use miniature mushrooms or brown mushrooms. To save time, you can buy them pre-cut.
  • Onions. I recommend the sweet yellow onions in this recipe.
  • Panko’s breadcrumbs. Panko breadcrumbs can be found in most grocery stores. You can also use ordinary dried, packaged breadcrumbs or make your own breadcrumbs.
  • Heavy cream and butter. If you want to do it without dairy products, you can change your favourite non-dairy cream. I also used a simple cashew sauce to feed on this recipe. (see comments)
  • Brood. I usually use chicken stock. You can also use a mushroom or vegetable broth.

Step-by-step instructions

Step one. Make onion rings for Panko.

Step two. Blanch the green beans. Never mind.

Step three. Prepare a cream of mushroom sauce.

Step four. Collect and heat in the oven.

Frequently asked questions and expert advice

How long does it take to turn green beans into a casserole?

The green bean pan should be cooked long enough to reheat it and make a good sparkling sauce. Everything inside is already cooked, so you just want it warm enough to eat.

Non-dairy substitutes.

Use cream without milk or a simple cashew nut sauce. (See instructions for the recipe).

What can I use instead of mushroom soup in a green bean pan?

I use homemade mushroom cream sauce instead of canned condensed soup.

Can you make a stew with green beans the night before?

Yes, but I recommend adding onion rings on the day of cooking to keep them crispy.

Can I use frozen green beans?

Yeah, you can use frozen green beans. I don’t recommend canned food because I think it’s too salty and pasty.

Instructions

Production of onion rings

  • The buttermilk is soaked in buttermilk. Mix the onions with salt and buttermilk. Let her sit for 5 to 10 minutes.
  • The bread. Mix the flour and breadcrumbs from the punkos in a large flat plate and throw it away. Add a few onion rings in a row. Discard the coats with the breadcrumb mixture and place them on a rack or baking tray until they are ready to bake.
  • The oven. Spray the pan with cooking spray and distribute the onions evenly in the pan. Spray a thin layer of onion rings.
  • Put the pan on the middle rack and let it boil golden brown for about 20 minutes.
  • Pay close attention to how the temperature of the oven changes. Throw the onions 2 to 3 times while cooking.
  • Then take the appliance out of the oven and set it aside until it is ready for use. Reduce the oven temperature to 400 degrees.

Blanching green beans

  • While the onions are being prepared, prepare the beans.
  • Boil the water. Boil the water and 2 tablespoons of salt in an 8/4 pan.
  • Blanche. Add the beans and blanch for 5 minutes.
  • Ice bath. Empty the sieve and immediately immerse the beans in a large bowl of ice water to finish cooking. After it has cooled down, drain the water and set it aside.

Mushroom cream sauce

  • Lots of mushrooms. Melt the oil in a large, heavy-bottomed pan over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and 1 teaspoon salt.  Boil, stir occasionally, until the mushrooms take on a deep golden brown colour in about 10 minutes.
  • Add the garlic. Mix the garlic and cook for another 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Make some cream sauce. Sprinkle the flour over the mixture and stir. Cook for one minute. Add the stock and cook for 1 minute. The combination of flour and broth can thicken the sauce.
  • She’s fat. Reduce the heat to medium and add half. Cook until thickened, stirring occasionally for about 6-8 minutes.
  • Mix onion rings. Remove the mushroom mixture from the heat and stir to 1/4 onion rings. Stir.

Green bean harvest

  • Mix the green beans and the creamy mushroom sauce. You can finish the pan in the same pan in which you prepared the sauce, or you can put everything in a pan with a sweeter dish to cook and serve. (This step can be completed in a few days).
  • Onion up. Cover with the remaining onion rings. Just before cooking.
  • The oven. Put the casserole in the oven and bake for about 15 minutes until it boils. Remove it and serve it immediately. (If you’ve made the green beans before and they’ve been cooled, you’ll have to cook them longer).

Notes

Substitution
gluten-free : Use gluten-free flour and breadcrumbs.
No milk: Use cream without milk instead of half and half. Or use a simple cashew sauce.
With the
cooking guide, you can prepare a mushroom cream sauce and even blanched green beans in just a few days. If you want to make sure the onion rings are crispy, it is best to prepare them the same day.

  1. Follow the instructions for the cream of the mushroom sauce, with the exception of the addition of onion rings. Store in an airtight container.
  2. Blanch the green beans and let them cool down until cooked.

Simple cashew nut sauce (used in my vegan Alfredo nut squash).

  • 1 cup of raw cashew nuts
  • 3 glasses of water (to soak during the night)
  • 2 garlic gloves
  • a few pinches of salt.

How to make cashew sauce.

  1. Soak the cashew in the water.
  2. Drain and put the cashew nuts, garlic and salt in a blender at high speed.
  3. Add fresh water until the sauce has the consistency of a thin pancake batter. You use 1 to 2 glasses of water.
