A simple and delicious recipe for crispy idli tikki. Do you have any idlis in your fridge? Make this crispy vegetable and idli tikki and serve this delicious appetizer with your evening tea. For me, this is by far one of the best remaining recipes from Idleigh.

If you like idiots like me and make them often enough, there are leftovers in the fridge. Every time I make idli at home, I have some left over, so I keep trying different recipes to use the leftover idli in delicious ways. Some of them are Idli Manchurian, Idli Upma, Fried Idli, Podi Idli etc. but the best of all remaining Idli recipes is Idli Tikki.

  • We can make good use of leftovers and like to reuse them in tasty ways.
  • It is superficially fried and absorbs very little oil.

The rest of Idli: All leftovers and freshly cooked chicks.

Vegetables: grated carrots, finely chopped green peas and green beans, coriander leaves (finely chopped).

Spices and condiments : Salt, chili powder, turmeric powder, jeera powder, garam masala powder.

Oil: Any neutral oil for fine frying

Step-by-step method

Heat oil in a pan, add salt, chilli powder, turmeric powder, jeera powder, garam masala powder, grated carrot, mashed green peas and chopped beans and fry well.

Add the remaining idli and the coriander leaves. Mix well.

Make small tikkis out of them and fry until golden brown. Enjoy these crispy tikkis with sauce or green chutney.

  • I used a leftover idli rice, but you can use almost any leftover idli. Oat needle, ragi idli, masala idli, rava idli are all good.
  • Except for watery vegetables like peppers, you can use any vegetable of your choice. For example, beets, grated potatoes, finely shredded cabbage, etc.
  • You can add paneer or tofu for extra protein.
  • This is a good recipe to use idlis. So, even if your idli has gone down after preparing only crushed idli solids and making tikki with this recipe.
