What is the ideal glass for Irish Coffee?
You can use any cup, but there’s a perfect glass for Irish Coffee and we won’t tell you.
The magic of Irish coffee comes from a cup. It is best served in a glass with a high spout and not too big. Since you only use 4 ounces of coffee, 1 1/2 ounce of whiskey and a cherry on top, it is not necessary to use a cup larger than 6-8 ounces.
A large cup can make you want to drink more coffee, which disturbs the balance of the drink.
These 7.75 ounce glass cups, which you can buy at Amazon, are ideal for Irish Coffee.

Which coffee should be used?
You don’t want your coffee to go beyond the balance of the drink, that’s why a Colombian medium roast is a good choice for this drink.
However, a moderately roasted coffee works. Make sure it boils strongly and that it is warm when you prepare the drink.
Remember, espresso for Irish coffee needs to be strong and daring.
Whisky for use with
Well, it’s an Irish drink, so Irish whiskey is appropriate, we think! Jameson’s Irish whiskey is always a good choice, just like the Original Bushmill.
A whiskey with more notes of herbs and vanilla and a soft aftertaste is sufficient.

Which sugar should be used?
I prefer brown sugar because I always have it to hand. It gives the coffee a rich caramel content, which is why it is preferable to the usual white sugar. You can use light or dark brown sugar. Raw cane sugar can also work.
If you’re tempted to leave the sugar because you don’t like sweet coffee, you’ve chosen the wrong drink. This drink needs sugar, so please don’t let it rest.
That’s what makes this drink Irish coffee, not just strong coffee. It also helps if the cream floats on the drink, even if you drink it. Without sugar, the cream would just fall into the drink.
How to prepare Irish Coffee
First fill the cup with hot water and let it stand for a few minutes to warm up the glass. This prevents the drink from heating up as soon as it is poured into the glass.
When the cup warms up, whisk the cream until the ends are soft.
When you’re done, pour hot water into the cup. Put the brown sugar in the cup. Add some coffee and whiskey. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Fill the drink with a few spoons of whipped cream. It should be about an inch from the head. Sprinkle with nutmeg and serve.

- 4 ounces of hot coffee (medium or dark roasted)
- 1.5 ounces of Irish whiskey
- 2 teaspoons brown sugar
- 1 oz. heavy cream
- Heat the glass by pouring hot water over it and let it rest for a few minutes.
- Meanwhile, whip the cream until soft peaks appear.

Medium or dark coffee, roasted in a filter or in the French press, is the best choice. Avoid espresso, because it is too bitter for this drink.
